Stitch & Shutter
“My goal with the products I offer is to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern yet timeless designs. I'm always stuck somewhere between modern and classic and I think that's just fine. S&S may be offering leather goods, but these aren't your traditional leather goods.” - Megan, owner of Stitch & Shutter
A Q&A with Megan Combs, owner of Stitch & Shutter
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania and moved to Colorado after I graduated from college. My husband and I had both traveled here before and loved everything it had to offer so we packed up our cars and were Denver-bound shortly after graduating.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided I would be an "artist" when I was about 4-years-old. I didn't know it would look like this, I think I pictured being a painter in a little attic studio.
What album/song are you currently listening to?
There's been a lot of First Aid Kit, Larkin Poe, and Woodkid playing in the studio lately (whenever there's not a podcast on).
Do you have a favorite piece you’ve made?
I really enjoy working on the cutout pieces because the process is a little more free but I'd say my all-time favorite is the O-Ring Shoulder Bag.
What was the last concert/show you attended?
Florence and the Machine at Red Rocks in May. I had seen her there before and the freezing rain/snow weather definitely turned it into a totally different experience. Still a blast, she puts on an incredible show no matter what. But I did learn that my coat was no longer waterproof...
It's the weekend. What do you see yourself doing?
We just bought our home so there's a lot of remodeling going on around here most weekends. If we make it out of the house it's most likely for a hike or a camping trip with our pups, Shiva and Ruxin.
Are you self taught?
I'm self taught. I just sort of figured things out in my own way as I went along and if there was something I wasn't quite sure about, well you can always find it on YouTube.
Do you have a favorite coffee/tea spot?
I don't venture out for tea very often and I'm not a coffee-drinker so if I meet someone I tend to let them show me a new spot. I do love Hudson Hill though.
