Handcrafting everything from desks to dining chairs, Atla’s pieces are made to order in their small two-man workshop. Here, founder Kenny Wine brings his imagination to life across shapes that are beautiful and functional. Plus, Atla’s products are incredibly sustainable, with the team planting 10 trees for every table sold.

Kenny: I grew up in Maryland, just outside Washington D.C. I came to Colorado to attend CU Boulder for many of the same reasons most move out to CO.

Q: Are you self taught or did you learn from a mentor?

Kenny: I am self taught regarding woodworking. That being said I worked as a machinist & engineer at CU boulder for a number of years prior to starting to branch off on my own.

Q: Do you recall the first piece you made? How did it turn out?

Kenny: The first furniture piece I built was this over the top hanging nightstand that had 13 custom machined parts and had the ability to move up and down. It turn out nearly perfect although the design is way to cumbersome and over complicated. This first piece was also the first use of the pin hardware that you see on all of our pieces.

Q: Do you have a favorite piece you’ve made?

Kenny: That's a tough question, akin to my mom saying “I love all my kids equally.”

Q: What are three words that describe your work?

Kenny: Simple, Thoughtful, Enduring
