A Q&A with Alexa Allen
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Boulder, but I moved to the East Coast when I was 15. I moved back to boulder about 10 years ago after living in California for quite a while.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been creative, but I believed that a liberal arts education would be a well-rounded choice. But I think the minute I graduated from college with an art history degree I decided I was tired of talking about other people’s art and needed to make some of my own…So I went on to art school to learn how to make furniture.
What album/song are you currently listening to?
Little Simz, Grey Area. Because sometime I like to pretend I am not just a nerdy mom. ;)
Do you have a favorite piece you’ve made?
I think my favorite piece I have made is actually a stool I made in art school. I love it because it is very monolithic, and very unlike my current style. The stool is a good reminder that it is ok to be constantly evolving in form and style. (at least for me!)
What was the last concert/show you attended?
I saw Middle Kids in Denver. They are an Australian bad with a kick-ass woman singer.
It's the weekend. What do you see yourself doing?
What are three words you would use to best describe your work?
I would describe my work as: modern masculine with a nod to my contemporary craft (art school) roots.
